Csaba Markus
Syd Entel Galleries is proud to present the work of Csaba Markus.
Csaba Markus was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1953. Growing up in a
city over 2000 years rich in history and abundant in artistic influences,
Csaba became infatuated with the arts at a very young age. From the
reconstructed baroque architecture to the carefully excavated
castles and palaces, his childhood in Hungary laid the foundation for
what is now a source of inspiration for the artist. As history was a part
of his everyday life, Markus learned to appreciate the importance of
the past, the lessons it had to teach and the beauty that it created.
He began his artistic career as a sculptor under the guidance of the
highly acclaimed Hungarian academic, Ferenc Mohacsi Regos.
Recognized as a talented artist by his teachers and public alike, Csaba
and his work made their first public appearance on international public
television when he was 14 years of age.
His captivation with the Renaissance, Neo-Classic and Romantic periods
pre-dominated his work. Though classically trained, the Avant Garde
and Abstraction began to make their way into Csaba's work. He
reflected on the rebirth of humanity after the middle ages, the
transition from a spiritually and morally controlled world to one that
encouraged individual thought. These ideas became a strong thread in
the fabric of his work.
